What Just Happened?

I’ve been scribbling in this space for the past 10 years. And for most of that time, I’ve been good about posting regularly. My brother, Richard Bliss told me one time the secret to posting online is presence and persistence. And I’ve done that. There have been two instances where I failed. First was when my sister passed away. I just couldn’t write.

The second time was this year. More specifically this past week.

For the first time in ten years, my site died. It was dead. They had to restore it from backup. I’m a software guy when I’m not writing. I’ve worked with computers since before the first PC came out. I wanted to know why it wasn’t working. But, that’s not always how it works. The hosting company didn’t care about the RCA, or Root Cause Analysis. They went back to the last backup, did a restore and then tested that it was good.

At that point, they were done and moved on to other problems. For me, all I can do is speculate.

I find it more than a little coincidental that the last post I write “Who’s In Charge Here? Because It’s Not Me” was critical of a former colleague who is a legit computer expert. While I worked at my last company my coworker tracked my internet usage. He certainly could have put a key logger on my computer as well. Did he? I don’t know.

He absolutely has the skills to hack my site. Did he? Again, I don’t know.

Even speculating is dangerous. But the first time in ten years? Yeah, that sounds suspicious.

New passwords for everyone.

Stay safe
